Four top trends for bridal makeup in 2020
THE DAY WILL COME THIS YEAR, when you’re finally able to celebrate with all of your friends and family, the unity and love between you and your love. While you eagerly wait, now’s a good time to brainstorm the look you envision for yourself on your special day. Usually, when I ask my brides what they envision on their special day, they haven’t had a chance to stop and think about it. Take a moment, grab a hot ginger green tea and search for inspiration photos of the perfect “I do” look! Before you begin, let me fill you in on the hot bridal makeup trends and styles for 2020.
Dewy Skin

Say goodbye to caking on foundation and hello to healthy plump skin! This year, it’s all about skin, and a dewy complexion is key. You want your skin to look almost as if you’ve just gotten a facial done. In order to achieve this, make sure to take advantage of these quarantine days and opt in for a daily skin care routine and get that skin prepped for when you can say your, “I do’s.” Believe it or not, having skin that’s tended to is a major part of your bridal makeup look. It makes all the difference.
Fresh and Effortless
To contour heavily, is so last year! L’Oreal’s global makeup director, Val Garland said, “makeup should accentuate facial features, not change them.’’ This has heavily set the tone in stepping down from last year’s dark-colored contour moment, giving way to the emphasis on using highlight this year, which beautifully complements plump skin and accentuates that “dewy look.” We’ll be seeing less bronzy and peachy colors this year and instead, 80’s inspired complexions with pinks and subtle contour colors. Highlight, light contour colors and pink cheeks. A recipe for a fresh and effortless look!
Pop of Color
My favorite trend, the eyes! This year, the eyes take the show! You can let your inner goddess shine through by choosing a style that suits you best. The skies the limit! Trending eye shadow colors are golds, burnt oranges, red tones, browns, pastels, purples, greens, deep blues, pinks, you name it. You can add some shine to it, with glitter or gloss, because really, all is invited this year. You’ll also be seeing many different color eyeliners, and even mascaras. Think of jewel-toned eyes from the 70’s and 80’s, or the smoky eye from the 90’s. So much fun! Obviously, hiring a professional makeup artist who understands colors will be your best bet, because this can get tricky fast, especially on your wedding day. Just be sure to think outside the box and ask to try something different and exciting. You can try a nude eye shadow, with a bold color liner, a bold eye shadow, with a dark liner, or of course, a bold eye shadow with a bold liner.
Bold or Nude Lip?

Lastly, what every couple looks forward to doing on their wedding day is puckering up those lips! Remember the classic red lip from the 90’s? It’s back and I love it! A beautiful variation of the classic red lip would be a sexy hot pink lip. This year’s lip trends are bold and beautiful, but don’t discount nudes. If your eye color will be on the nude side, it will be perfect to pair it with a bold lip. On the contrary, if you’re doing a bold eye, that can be the center of attention and you can ask to have it paired with a complementing nude lip. Rarely do we pair a bold eye with a bold lip, but there are exceptions to this.
Think what look you want to be remembered by on your wedding day. After all, all eyes are on you. Make it memorable. Think how you can radiate and stand out on your special day. If you need help, you can always ask your pro makeup artist for help, but first remember to look around and get ideas of the look you’re going for before scheduling your trial. Most importantly, have fun with it!
